  • Find a reputed school that offers quality heavy equipment training programs. Such training programs are available with regional community colleges, professional schools and through online programs.

  • Fill in the application form carefully. Heavy equipment operation job entails reading operation and procedure manuals and doing mathematical calculations. So, do not forget to inform the school about your reading comprehension and math skill.

  • Obtaining letters of recommendation from your former teachers, employers or community members can help you in getting enrolled in a good school. Request them to mention in the letter your willingness to learn, community involvement, character, work ethics and skills.

  • Get your high school diploma and other educational certifications, driving license and Commercial Drivers License (CDL) photocopied. Attach the photocopies to the application.

  • Ensure that the application is free from errors or misspellings. Preferably, get it proofread from a friend.

  • Write a cover letter and enclose your 2-3 photographs in the envelope. Mention your physical fitness for the profession, past experience and other important information that you deem fit for getting accepted.
